Restore Broken or Weakened Teeth with Quality Dental Crowns
Dentistry is not just a science; it is also an art. Dentists today are focused on not only providing patients with restorations to repair their smiles but ensuring these restorations are long-lasting and beautiful. Dr. Rekha M. Mahajan and her team at Mahajan Dentistry of Novi, Michigan, work hard to guarantee patients have access to solutions for their smiles. Patients with damaged or compromised teeth will want to work with a dentist to restore them. In many cases, the dental crown may be the best solution.
What are dental crowns?
Dental crowns are perfect for all teeth. Crowns for front teeth are made to cover the tooth structure and provide an extra layer of protection. Patients might also ask their dentist about getting a crown on a broken tooth to avoid permanent extraction. These crowns, or “caps,” are a preferred way to strengthen or protect a tooth. They cover all the visible portions of the tooth above the gum line. They are also fabricated from a porcelain material to become a perfect match for the patient’s existing teeth in the smile.
What can I anticipate during my dental crown placement
The placement of a dental crown requires patients to schedule two appointments. During the first visit, the dentist will evaluate the patient to determine if they could benefit from designing and placing a dental crown over one or more teeth. Then, preparations begin, during which Dr. Mahajan removes natural tooth enamel from around the entire tooth. After this has been done, impressions are taken. These impressions are used to create a restoration from porcelain in a dental laboratory. Patients will have a temporary crown bonded over the prepared tooth while waiting for their final restoration to return to the dentist’s practice, typically within a week or two. Patients return to the office to remove the temporary crown and place the new one.
