What You Should Expect When Going to Your Local Dentist for Veneers

Your First Step

Your first step to getting new veneers will be a consultation with your dentist, during which X-rays and impressions will be taken. During this appointment, your dentist will tell you if you are a good candidate for veneers. You will be able to share your goals and what you are hoping to achieve with veneers. Your dentist will then be able to show you what your teeth will look like once your veneers have been placed.

The Procedure

On the day of your appointment, you will go into your dental office, and your dentist will shave off a very thin layer of enamel from every tooth that is getting a veneer. This creates a surface area that is easier for the veneer to adhere to while also making room for the veneer to sit flush with your other teeth. A veneer would be quite noticeable if this enamel layer were not removed. It is important to note here that, due to the enamel being removed, veneers are a permanent dental solution and cannot be reversed. A mold is then created for every tooth that will be treated and sent to a lab for the veneers to be fabricated. You will be given temporary veneers to wear while you wait for your permanent veneers to come in.

Once your permanent veneers arrive at your dentist, you will come in for another visit for the veneer placement. Cementing the veneers in place is a fairly quick process. Once the veneers are set, they are bonded to your teeth within minutes.
